• •
Mr. Charlie Morgan, Jr.
Charles Morgan &Associates
Plan Check Number: B1805-043, Second Review
October 24, 2018
concurrently with other loads should be submitted for review. The calculations should
include the evaluation of deflection limits per IBC Section 1607.9.1. The design shall
consider concurrent multi-directional loading as determined by the elevator
manufacturer. See IBC Sections 1604.2 and 1605.
d. The connections between the elevator guide rails and the structural framing are typically
the responsibility of the engineer-of-record for the building system. At a minimum,
connection details between the rail bracket and structural framing are required.
Calculations and details for the elevator connections to the structural framing should be
submitted for review. The design shall consider concurrent multi-directional loading as
determined by the elevator manufacturer. The required locations and maximum spacing
for the connection points should be specified in the structural drawings. See IBC
Section 107.2.1 and 1604.4.
e. The structural calculations shall be performing using the appropriate load combinations
including live and seismic loading per IBC Section 1605.2 or 1605.3. In addition,
documentation shall be submitted verifying the nominal loads have been increased for
impact effects per IBC Section 1607.9.1. The application of the live load factors in the
LRFD load combinations does not satisfy this requirement.
f. The elevator shaft at Grid F.3/7.3 extends through three stories of wood-framed
structure. Calculations substantiating that shrinkage of the structure will not adversely
affect the performance of the elevator are recommended. Elevator rails should be
evaluated for induced axial loads or provided with connections that allow for vertical
differential movement. See IBC Section 2304.3.3.
12.The Roof Framing Plan on Sheet S2.5 does no show an elevator hoist beam for the elevator
at Grid F.3/7.3. Verify if a beam is required. Provide details as needed for the connection
between the beam and the supporting wood-framed wall. Framing connections are required
to provide a minimum positive connection capacity per ASCE 7-10 Section 1.4.4. Posts or
other framing should be specified to provide a load path to the foundation. Documentation
substantiating the connections and framing should be submitted for review. See IBC
Sections 1603.1, 1604.1, and 1604.4.
© 3200 Cedar Street © 425.257.8800 O everettpw@everettwa.gov
Everett, WA 98201 425.257.8882 fax everettwa.gov
