EVERETT
WASHINGTON
Everett City Council
9
2930 Wetmore Ave, Ste. 9A
Everett, WA 98201
425.257.8703
council@everettwa.gov
www.everettwa.gov
May 31, 2023
Administrative Office of the Courts
RE: Support for Therapeutic Services Court Program Grant Funding
The Everett City Council expresses its support of continued grant funding
of Everett Municipal Court's Therapeutic Services Court. Like many cities across
our state, Everett is facing a crisis related to the explosion of the use of
drugs, particularly fentanyl. As the county seat and the site of the Snohomish
County Jail, Everett bears a disproportionate brunt of that crisis, as most of
the substance addicted and unhoused offenders from throughout our county
remain in Everett and continue to commit crimes in our community.
One way Everett Municipal Court has chosen to combat this crisis is through their
grant funded Therapeutic Services Court (TSC). These last two years represent the
pilot stage of the program and they have already seen the positive impact it
can make in the lives of so many. Continued funding from the AOC presents the
court with an opportunity to sustain this program and continue to make that
meaningful impact. We believe this program makes our community a better place
not just for their participants, but for all our citizens. Please consider fully
funding this program so they can continue to provide meaningful change to
their participants and our community.
Sincerely,
Brenda Stonecipher
Council President at Large
