Funding for this adjustment is available within the $2M
annual Move Ahead WA transportation grant.
Project summary statement:
The MOU addresses three issues, two related to competitive recruitment and retention of fixed
route and paratransit operators, and one to improve management's ability to manage overtime
costs when covering paratransit work.
Fixed route bus operator wages are adjusted as follows:
• Months to top step decrease from 61 to 37.
• Training wage increases from $24.82 per hour to $27.00 per hour.
Paratransit operators with more than 10 and 15 years of service will be compensated at 95% and
100%, respectively, of fixed route wages. All other paratransit operator wages are adjusted to
90% of fixed route wages.
Management will have the ability to assign fixed route operators, with current paratransit
experience, to cover paratransit trips, before using inspectors or acting inspectors, who are
compensated at a much higher overtime rate.
Recommendation (exact action requested of Council):
Authorize the Mayor to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Everett and
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 883 regarding wages and working conditions.
Category 2: For official use only / disclosure permissible by law.
