•
Mr. Art Skotdal
Skotdal Real Estate
Plan Check Number: B1906-031, First Building Review - Structural
August 26, 2019
c. The building structural components (i.e., elevator shaft wall studs and supporting floor
framing) that support the elevator system are included in the submittal drawings.
Calculations substantiating the design of the structure to support the elevator loads
concurrently with other loads (e.g., concurrent stud flexural and axial loading) shall be
submitted for review. The calculations should include the evaluation of deflection limits per
IBC Section 1607.9.1. The design shall consider concurrent multi-directional loading as
determined by the elevator manufacturer. See IBC Sections 1604.2 and 1605.
d. The connections between the elevator guide rails and the structural framing are typically the
responsibility of the engineer-of-record for the building system. Calculations substantiating
the connections to the structural framing shall be submitted for review. The design shall
consider concurrent multi-directional loading as determined by the elevator manufacturer.
The required locations and maximum spacing for the connection points should be specified
in the structural drawings. See IBC Section 107.2.1 and 1604.4.
e. The structural calculations shall be performing using the appropriate load combinations
including live and seismic loading per IBC Section 1605. In addition, documentation shall be
submitted verifying the nominal loads have been increased for impact effects per IBC
Section 1607.9.1.
f. The elevator shaft extends through five stories of wood-framed structure. Calculations
substantiating that shrinkage of the structure will not adversely affect the performance of
the elevator shall be submitted for review. Elevator rails should be evaluated for induced
axial loads or provided with connections that allow for vertical differential movement. See
IBC Section 2304.3.3.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers-of-record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer/ Commercial Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
dmartin@everettwa.gov
S:\B M a rti n\2019\B 1906-031_R 1-STR.d ocx
O3200 Cedar Street © 425.257.8810 0 everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
( E1of 12
