The question regarding design pressures for below grade perimeter walls was discussed with Matt
Miller,Associated Earth Sciences. Matt said that the choice of design soil pressure(35 pcf active or at-
rest 55 pcf or apparent with multiple supports 25H)is dependent on the location, installation conditions
and is the decision of the engineer of record. Note that installation of shotcrete wall against a flexible soil
nail wall is considered to be flexible.
2b and 2c. Structural calculations considering at-rest pressures was previously submitted in
supplemental calculations included consideration of traffic surcharges. Reference attached
supplemental structural calculations for supplemental calculations considering multiple levels of support
and surcharges from North and South building perimeter walls.
Item 3
3a and 3b. The Structural Notes on Sheet S1.01 Section 01005 have been revised to update the shop
drawing and deferred submittal requirements for this project. Note that the first line of Section 01005
includes the requirement that all submittals shall be provided to the structural engineer for approval.
Item 4
Structural Notes Sheet S1.01 Section 03101 is revised to list the minimum reinforcement required for
various wall thicknesses. Where details specify a greater amount of reinforcement, it shall control for
that specific location. Wall sections now refer to this schedule. The schedule includes 6"and 14"walls
as for this project.
Item 5
RE wall sections for wall reinforcement requirements which reference the schedule noted in response to
Item 4.Typical Detail 16/S6.00 specifies added wall reinforcement at all wall openings and adjusts bar
size and spacing short wall piers between openings. At piers a tighter spacing and/or smaller bar size is
specified to meet minimum spacing requirements while still meeting require areas. Diagonal bars are
added crack arrest bars. Supplemental calculations are provided confirming wall reinforcement and
confirm that concrete header beams do not require special reinforcement.
Item 7
7a. Noted. The sheets have been deleted.
7b. RE revised plans, details and supplemental structural calculations for transfer beams. Sheet S3.00
is updated to clarify reinforcement at the transfer beam locations.
7c. RE response to Item 5.
7d. Wall elevations and sections have been updated.
7e. Sheet S3.02 is deleted from the project. The wall reinforcement is now covered in S1.01. RE
response to Item 4.
7f and 7g. Sections have been updated.
7h and 7i. Column locations have been coordinated with the architect. Confirming, all columns align.
Where columns rotate, RE details 3 and 4/S6.01. RE supplemental calculations.
Item 8
8a and 8b. Typical wall thickness is 10 inches and Sheet S2.00 is updated. All interior walls are
marked with thickness. Reinforcement is covered in the Structural Notes RE Item 4 above, and per
sections. Wall thickness is coordinated with architectural to agree with structural requirements.
Item 11
Roof Penthouse. The response to all wood frame items is forthcoming in a separate response and
submittal.
Page 12 r i
