Details shall be provided to clarify the construction.
c. The proposed decking shall be specified. Fastener requirements between the decking and
framing shall be specified.
d. Calculations substantiating the design of the framing and connections shall be submitted for
review. The design shall consider the live loads per IBC Table 1607.1 Item 30.
e. Details for the connections between the existing construction (i.e., deck and house) and the
new deck shall be included in the construction drawings. Where the new deck imparts
additional loading to existing structures, calculations verifying the existing structures shall
be submitted for review.
Lateral System:
9. The deck appears intended to be fastened to the existing structure for lateral support. Details
for the connections shall be included in the construction drawings. Calculations substantiating
the capacity of the connections in both principal directions shall be submitted for review.
Where connections support both gravity and lateral loading, the connections shall be designed
for concurrent loading. See IBC Sections 1604.1, 1604.4, 1609.1,and 1613.1.
Miscellaneous:
10.The project includes guards (i.e., handrails and supporting posts). The guards shall be
designed to resist the loads per IBC Section 1607.8.1. Calculations substantiating the design
shall be submitted for review. Details for the connections between the railing and posts, and
the posts and supporting structure, shall be included in the construction drawings. Where posts
connect to rim boards and stair stringers, additional calculations and details shall be provided to
prevent torsion in the framing and develop the loads into the supporting framing. See IBC
Sections 1603.1 and 1604.1.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers-of-record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer/ Commercial Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
dmartin@everettwa.gov
S:\BMartin\2019\B1908-016_R1.docx
0 3200 Cedar Street 425.257.8810 0 everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 4of4
