The supervisor will compare the
persons present to the vessel's daily sign -in list and report any missing personnel immediately to the
Fire Department ranking officer and vessel management.
When a fire is present:
• Sound the alarm
• Evacuate personnel inthe area
• Call 911
• Restrictthe fire by shutting doors and windows, shutting down ventilation
• Attempt to extinguishthe fire only if it is small and it can be done safely
• Evacuate by using the nearest safe exit
• Muster onshore so ahead count may betaken
Designated Hot Work Areas
There are no designated hot work areas onboard most ships. Every area where hot work will be
performed must be inspected prior to the hot work. Who conducts the inspection and what
documentation is needed varies by space and conditions and is listed in the chart included in this
plan.
Hot work may only be performed in areas that are free from hazards orthat have been controlled by
physical isolation, fire watches, or other positive means. All hot work areas must be kept free of
new hazards during work.
