Be alert for situations <br />where this may occur. Proper housekeeping can greatly reduce the risk of afire. Preventative <br />housekeeping includes: <br />- Surveying hotwork areas for ignitable materials and removing them prior to hot work. <br />- Keeping paint and solvents tightly covered when not in use. <br />- Returning paint to paint storage area or paint locker each day after use. <br />- Complying with no smoking/no open flames rules nearfuel sources and combustibles. <br />- Minimizing the collection of waste cardboard, wood pallets and combustible debris. Take out <br />trash regularly. <br />- Maintaining at least 36" of clearance in front of electrical panels. <br />- Maintaining at least 18" of clearance away from sprinkler heads. <br />- Keeping all emergency exits and exit pathways clear. <br />- Keeping fire extinguishers and hoses in place and unblocked. <br />- Keeping oily rags in covered, metal container and emptying the container regularly. <br />- No drying of clothing on or near wall heaters. Keep combustibles (including plastic garbage <br />cans) away from wall heaters. <br />- Cleaning up wood shavings immediately after cutting wood. <br />- Not using equipment with faulty electrical components. <br />Reporting Unsafe Conditions <br />If you notice an unsafe condition, reportit IMMEDIATELY to your supervisor <br />Alarm Procedures <br />Procedures for Notifying Others <br />Verbally notify other employees, notify a vessel supervisor, or activate an alarm. Activation stations <br />are marked on posted Fire and Safety Plan Drawings. <br />Proceduresfor Notifying Fire Response Organizations <br />Call911. While ina shipyard, notifyshipyard personnel immediately. <br />Evacuation Procedures & Exit Routes <br />When the alarm sounds, immediately evacuate by the nearest safe exit. Proceed down the <br />gangway and assemble atthe designated assembly area. <br />Before beginningwork in a particulararea, orient yourself to at leasttwo exitsfrom the space you <br />will beworking. If evacuation becomes necessary, leave using the nearest safe exit and proceed <br />down the gangway to the yard. Assemble on the dock ina safe location as indicated bythe highest <br />ranking supervisor. DO NOT leave the area until authorized to by a vessel owner orfire department <br />representative. <br />
