side thereof for a continuous distance of three hundred (300) <br /> feet or more is occupied by buildings in use for business. <br /> (f) "Center of Intersection. " the point of inter- <br /> section of the center lines of the roadway or intersecting <br /> public highways. <br /> (g) "City Street. " . Every public highway as herein <br /> defined, or part thereof, located within the limits of Everett, <br /> except alleys. <br /> (h) "Combination of vehicles. " Every combination of <br /> motor vehicle and trailer or motor vehicle and semi-trailer, <br /> the principal use of which is the transportation of commodities, <br /> merchandise, produce , freight or animals. <br /> (i) "Commercial Vehicle. " Any vehicle , the <br /> principal use of which is the transportation of commodities, <br /> merchandise , produce , freight , animals or passengers, for hire. <br /> (j ) "Crosswalk. " he portion of the roadway be- <br /> tween the intersection area and a prolongation or connection of <br /> tie farthest sidewalk line or in the event there are no side- <br /> walks then between the intersection area and a line ten (10) feet <br /> therefrom, except as modified by a marked crosswalk. <br /> (k) "Hours of :Darkness.." whenever used in this <br /> urdinance , shall mean the hours from one-half hour after <br /> sunset to one-half hour before sunrise , and any other time <br /> when persons or objects may not be clearly discernible at <br /> a distance of five hundred (500) feet. <br /> (1) "Marked Crosswalk. " Any portion of a roadway <br /> distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other <br /> markings on the surface thereof. <br /> (m) ' otor Truck. " Any motor vehicle as herein <br /> defined, designated or used for the transportation of commodities , <br /> merchandise , produce , freight or animals. <br /> (n) "Motor Vehicle. " Every vehicle , as herein <br /> defined, which is• in itself a self-propelled unit. • <br /> (a) "Motorcycle. " Every motor vehicle , as herein <br /> defined , having a saddle for the use of the rider and designer;-ed <br /> to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the <br /> ground , but excluding a farm tractor. <br /> (p) "Muffler. " A device consisting of a series of <br /> chambers, or other mechanical designs for the purpose of <br /> receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and <br /> effective in reducing noise resulting therefrom. <br /> (q) "Peace Officer. " Any officer authorized by law <br /> to execute criminal process or to make arrests for the violation <br /> of the statutes or ordinances or of any particular statute or <br /> ordinance relative to the public highways of this state or city. <br /> -2- <br />
