side thereof for a continuous distance of three hundred (300) feet or more is occupied by buildings in use for business. (f) "Center of Intersection. " the point of inter- section of the center lines of the roadway or intersecting public highways. (g) "City Street. " . Every public highway as herein defined, or part thereof, located within the limits of Everett, except alleys. (h) "Combination of vehicles. " Every combination of motor vehicle and trailer or motor vehicle and semi-trailer, the principal use of which is the transportation of commodities, merchandise, produce , freight or animals. (i) "Commercial Vehicle. " Any vehicle , the principal use of which is the transportation of commodities, merchandise , produce , freight , animals or passengers, for hire. (j ) "Crosswalk. " he portion of the roadway be- tween the intersection area and a prolongation or connection of tie farthest sidewalk line or in the event there are no side- walks then between the intersection area and a line ten (10) feet therefrom, except as modified by a marked crosswalk. (k) "Hours of :Darkness.." whenever used in this urdinance , shall mean the hours from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise , and any other time when persons or objects may not be clearly discernible at a distance of five hundred (500) feet. (1) "Marked Crosswalk. " Any portion of a roadway distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface thereof. (m) ' otor Truck. " Any motor vehicle as herein defined, designated or used for the transportation of commodities , merchandise , produce , freight or animals. (n) "Motor Vehicle. " Every vehicle , as herein defined, which is• in itself a self-propelled unit. • (a) "Motorcycle. " Every motor vehicle , as herein defined , having a saddle for the use of the rider and designer;-ed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground , but excluding a farm tractor. (p) "Muffler. " A device consisting of a series of chambers, or other mechanical designs for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and effective in reducing noise resulting therefrom. (q) "Peace Officer. " Any officer authorized by law to execute criminal process or to make arrests for the violation of the statutes or ordinances or of any particular statute or ordinance relative to the public highways of this state or city. -2-
