The other employees and assistan,s <br /> shall perform such duties as pertain to the nature of their office <br /> and as authorized and directed by the superintendent and Commission- <br /> er of Public Works. <br /> Section 19: It is the purpose of this ordinance to <br /> fix the number and designation of the permanent assistants, <br /> deputies and employees in the various offices of the City of <br /> Everett, in addition to the officers, assistants and employees <br /> provided in Ordinance No. 2691 of the City of Everett, and nothing <br /> herein contained shall be construed so as to prevent the various <br /> officers and various heads of the Departments of the City of <br /> Everett from employing,with the consent of the City Council , <br /> such employees as from time to time may be necessary in the <br /> proper discharge of the duties of such officers, or from discontinu- <br /> ing such temporary employees when the necessity therefor has <br /> ceased to exist. <br /> • action 20 : The above named officers, assistants and <br /> employees, unless otherwise provided by the City Charter, shall <br /> be appointed by the following persons , to wit : <br /> The stenographer in the City. Attorney's office shall be <br /> appointed by the City Attorney. <br /> • <br /> The officers and assistants and employees in the <br /> Department of Finance shall be appointed by the Commissioner of <br /> Finance. <br /> The officers, assistants and employees in the Depart- <br /> ment of Safety shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Safety. <br /> The Officers, assistants and employees in the Depart- <br /> ment of Public Works shall be appointed by the Commissioner of <br /> Public Works , such appointments shall be made subject to the <br /> Civil Service Regulations of the City of Everett. <br /> Section 21 : That on and after the 1st day of <br /> January, 1937, the salaries and compensation to be paid to the <br /> officers, their assistants and employees of the City of Everett, <br /> herein specified , Shall be as in this ordinance provided , to wit: <br />
