I <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 2607 <br /> An Ordinance amending Sections 4 and 10 of Ordinance No . 2483 as amended <br /> by Ordinance No. 2548, and Sections 5 and 7 of Ordinance No. 2483 as amended by <br /> Ordinance No. 2516, and Sections 9 and 11 of Ordinance No. 2483 , providing for <br /> the fixing and determining of the various officers, assistants, deputies and <br /> employees of the City of Everett , Washington, reducing the number of officers <br /> and employees of the several departments thereof for reasons of economy and for <br /> the curtailment of expenses of the said City, prescribing the duties of such <br /> officers, assistants, deputies and employees , fixing their salaries, repealing <br /> Ordinance No. 2548, No. 2516 and No. 2592 and all other Ordinances or parts <br /> of Ordinances in conflict herewith: <br /> THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1: That Section 4 of Ordinance No. 2483 as amended by Section <br /> One of Ordinance Mo . 2548 be amended to read as follows , to-wit : Section 4: <br /> There shall be the following officers and assistants in the Health Department, <br /> to-wit: One Health Officer, one deputy Health Officer , one Milk and Food In- <br /> spector , one Clerk and Stenographer (half time) . It shall be the duty of the <br /> deputy health officer, milk and food inspector, clerk and stenographer to per- <br /> form the duties pertaining to said department under the direction of the health <br /> officer and the commissioner of public safety. The office of the meat inspector <br /> is temporarily abolished for reasons of economy and to curtail the expenses of <br /> the department. <br /> Section 2: That Section 5 of Ordinance No. 2483 as amended by Section One <br /> of Ordinance No. 2516 be amended to read as follows, to-wit : Section 5: There <br /> shall be the following named officers and assistants in the Police Department, <br /> ✓ one Chief of Bureau of Identification <br /> to-wit: One Chief of Police , one Captain, two Desk Sergeants, two detectives, <br /> seventeen patrolmen, one police matron, one jailor and cook, one stenographer, <br /> (half time) . Patrolmen for the first year of service shall be classed as third <br /> class patrolmen; patrolmen for the second year of service shall be classed as <br /> second class patrolmen; and patrolmen for the third year and thereafter shall be <br /> classed as first class patrolmen. For reasons of economy and to curtail expenses <br /> of the department , all officers thereof shall be required to deduct 20 days with- <br /> out pay from the balance of their 1934 year employment, said 20 days to be at <br /> staggered intervals during the year; provided, the said 20 days absence without <br /> pay shall not be required of the Chief of Police and the Police Matron. it shall <br /> be the duty of the officers and assistants in said department to perform the duties <br /> indicated by the name of their employment end such other duties as the Chief of <br /> Police and Commissioner of Safety authorizes and directs. The Chief of Police <br /> shall be the administrative mead of the Police Department. <br /> Section 3: That Section 7 of Ordinance No. 2483 as amended by Section <br /> -1- <br />
