However, the submitted documents are not
sufficiently developed for us to perform a comprehensive review at this time.
Information is attached to provide guidance. Construction-level documents should be submitted for
review. Two complete sets of the revised drawings should be submitted to replace the previously submitted
drawing sets. Preliminary comments are provided below to assist in preparing the drawings, but these are not
intended to provide a comprehensive review. The resubmittal documents should include an itemized
response letter clarifying how the review comments below have been addressed. Depending on your
experience with the adopted codes and preparing documents, we recommend consulting with a design
professional to assist you.
Intake Review Comments:
1. The submitted drawings consist of only an aerial image of the building. Construction-level drawings
should be submitted for review. At a minimum, the drawings should include a roof plan (drawn to-
scale) and details for the proposed reroof construction.
2. It is understood that the existing roofing will be removed by others due to it likely containing asbestos
materials. We do not have a separate application for this work. However, the scope of the removal of
the existing roof and construction of the new roof should be combined into the same permit. Please
coordinate with the owner and the contractor performing the abatement work to prepare a single
application for the proposed reroofing project.
3. The project potentially involves increasing the weight of the roof structure. A structural analysis is
required unless the roof construction including the new roofing materials complies with 2048 IEBC
Section 706.2. Where the new weight exceeds 5% of the original design weight, structural analysis of
the supporting framing in the load path (e.g.,joists, beam, posts, etc.) is required.
4. The description in the application includes the installation of plywood, which is understood to be
placed over the roof board sheathing. Details for the construction, including but not limited to the
sheet placement, orientation relative to supporting framing, and nailing, should be included.
5. Insulation of the roof to current levels for new construction is required if part or all of the insulation is
provided above the structural roof deck. Verify the location of the insulation. Note that if the existing
1
