• <br /> owner or his agent having been first made to the Water Department and granted <br /> officially. <br /> In all cases where a property owner has installed any system of water <br /> pipes for fire protection or for sprinkler system without having made proper <br /> application to the Water Department therefor, he shall be considered as act- <br /> ing in violation of the rules and regulations of the Water Department and <br /> subject to the penalties prescribed by law. <br /> Water shall not be turned into any sprinkler service until the person <br /> or company installing such service shall report same to the Water Department; <br /> the installation report shall specify: <br /> 1 . Size of mains used in the system. <br /> 2. Number of fire hydrants and size of same , whether <br /> standard hydrants or smaller size . <br /> 3 . Number of sprinkler tips in automatic sprinkler service . <br /> 4 . Whether a valve with indicator post for cutting off the <br /> system has been placed at a distance removed from <br /> any building or buildings, so that in case of fire, <br /> water can be reached and the supply cut off. <br /> Before the installation of any sprinkler service system, plans shall be <br /> submitted to the Superintendent of the Water Department for approval, and the <br /> valves and indicator posts shall be located at such places as the Superinten- <br /> dent may require . <br /> The agents or servants of the Water Department shall be permitted at all <br /> reasonable times to inspect the standpipe sprinkler 'services, and all other <br /> water services or connections on any premises, and if deemed necessary, may <br /> put seals on any valves , hydrants or other outlets from the standpipes or <br /> sprinkler systems. <br /> The expense of tapping mains , making connections, testing completed work, <br /> placing valves, meters or any other protective device that the Superintendent <br /> may deem necessary to prevent the illegal use of water, shall in all cases be <br /> borne by the owner of the property benefitted . <br /> The Water Department shall not be held to guarantee the sufficiency of <br /> its water supply for fire protection in any fire or sprinkler system; and <br /> the Water Department shall not be liable for the failure of water through <br /> said private fire or sprinkler service , whether occasioned by the scarcity of <br /> water in its mains, lack of pressure from any cause, or the breaking of any valve, <br /> main or connection, or from the shutting off of water for repairing, new connec- <br /> tions or for any other justifiable cause . <br /> -14- <br />
