RESOLUTION NO. ______________
A RESOLUTION of the City of Everett changing the name of the 1000 block of Trojan Way to
Officer Dan Rocha Way
WHEREAS,
A.Everett police officers serve their community with pride, honor and distinction.
B.Everett Officer Dan Rocha was an Everett police officer for 4 ½ years before he was killed in the
line of duty, protecting and serving the Everett community. He was killed by a gunman in the
Starbuck’s parking lot located at 1010 North Broadway, after he observed the suspect
transferring a firearm from one vehicle to another. Officer Rocha was well known by the
employees at this Starbuck’s, as he frequented it both on and off-duty and had developed a
positive relationship with much of the staff at this store.
C.Officer Rocha and his wife moved to Everett from Las Vegas in 2011. After arriving they resided
in north Everett, quickly becoming a part of the fabric of the community. Although they later
moved to a more rural setting, Officer Rocha always maintained his connection and affinity for
Everett.
D.In 2017, Officer Rocha began his life of public service, when he was hired by the Everett Police
Department as a Parking Enforcement Officer. He quickly established himself as a hard worker
with outstanding public relations skills. Officer Rocha was later drawn to police work and hired
as a full-time police officer with Everett in 2018.
E.Upon completing his training, Officer Rocha was first assigned to patrol the same neighborhood
that he had previously worked in while employed at Fred Meyer in south Everett. While Officer
Rocha was able to quickly reconnect with the neighborhood he had previously served, it was his
ultimate goal to return to north Everett and patrol the streets that he once lived in after his
family had arrived in 2011. In 2020, Officer Rocha finally realized that goal, when he was
assigned as a dayshift patrol officer in north Everett. This is where Dan faithfully served the
Everett community up until his death on March 25, 2022.
F.The Everett Police Department has requested that the City change the name of the 1000 block
of Trojan Way to "Officer Dan Rocha Way," as shown on the attached map. This portion of street
is near the north Everett neighborhood that Officer Rocha resided in when he first moved to
Everett in 2011, and is near 1010 North Broadway, the area where Officer Rocha was assigned
to work as a police officer and where he was killed in the line of duty.
7941
