RESOLUTION Page 2 of 3
G.The only current property owner that could be immediately impacted by the renaming of the
street, Everett Community College, has indicated their support for this request. Dr. John Olson,
Executive Director of Government and Community Relations of for Everett Community College,
has given his endorsement for this request.
H.Mayor Franklin has approved the request to for a street name change.
I.The Transportation Advisory Committee has recommended approval of this request.
J.The Historical Commission, after providing notice and following its public process, has
recommended approval of this request.
K.The City Council in 2012 adopted Resolution 6537 "A Resolution Establishing a Policy on Public
Place Names and Name Changes." The City Council has considered the criteria under Sections 3
and 4 of that 2012 resolution and finds that the changing the street name to "Officer Dan Rocha
Way" meets the applicable criteria, specifically Section 4, which states that:
The City Council, after consideration of the criteria in Section 3 and public
comment, may elect to name or rename any City building, public place, facility,
structure, park or natural feature or rename a street contrary to the provisions of
this policy if it determines there is sufficient reason to take such action. Such
action by City Council shall be by resolution.
L.The impact of Officer Rocha’s death on the Everett Police Department and the Everett
community is an exceptional circumstance that warrants a change in the street name.
M.The change of the street name does not conflict with maintaining sequential, numerical,
alphabetical, or historical naming patterns.
N.The City Council has held a public hearing and received public comment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1.The recitals above are hereby incorporated into this Resolution by this reference.
2.The City Council approves the change-of-name request. The portion of 1000-1099 Trojan Way,
otherwise known as the 1000 block of Trojan Way, as shown on the attached map, is hereby
renamed "Officer Dan Rocha Way."
3.The Mayor or designee is authorized to implement the name change. This name change is to be
noted on all City official plats and maps and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to prepare and
file a certified copy of this Resolution in the County Auditor's Office.
