Section 4. First -Aid Measures
General
Poison information centres in each State capital city can provide additional
assistance for scheduled poisons (13 1126).
Ingestion
If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Aspiration hazard if swallowed - can enter lungs and cause
damage. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, bet, or waistband. Get
medical attention.
Skin
Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops or
persists.
Inhalation
Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is
difficult, give oxygen. Get immediate medical attention.
Eye
Flush eye with plenty of water for 15 minutes while holding eyelids open. Remove
contact lenses. Continue flushing for 15 minutes or until eyes return to normal.
Get medical attention if irritation develops or persists.
Acute/Delayed Symptoms
Irritating to eyes and skin. Central nervous system effects. May cause headache.
Drowsiness. Narcosis. Inhalation of vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation.
Aspiration hazard if swallowed - can enter the lungs and cause damage. May
cause nausea and vomiting. May cause diarrhea.
Notes to physician
Treat symptomatically.
Protection for first-aiders
First -Aid Providers: Avoid exposure to blood or body fluids. Wear gloves and
other necessary protective clothing. Dispose of contaminated clothing and
equipment as bio-hazardous waste
Section 5. Fire Fighting Measures
Suitable Extinguishing Water fog or fine spray. Dry chemical fire extinguishers. Carbon dioxide fire
Media
extinguishers. Foam. Alcohol resistant foams (ATC type) are preferred.
Unsuitable Extinguishing
Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire. If water must
Media
be used, use as a spray only to protect fire fighters or cool containers. Use fog
nozzles if water is used.
Risk
Highly flammable. Container explosion may occur under fire conditions or when
heated. May be ignited by heat, sparks or flames.
Flammable Properties
Combustion products may include and are not limited to: Carbon monoxide.
Carbon dioxide. Vapors may form explosive mixture with air.
Fire fighting instructions
Move container from fire area if it can be done without risk. Vapors may be
heavier than air. They can spead along the ground and collect in low of confined
areas. Ignition or flashback may occur.
Risk
Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases.
Advice for Fire Fighters
Self-contained respiratory protection should be provided for fire fighters fighting
fires in buildings or confined area. Storage containers exposed to fire should be
kept cool with water spray to prevent pressure build-up. Stay away from heads of
containers that have been exposed to intense heat or flame.
Section 6. Accidental Release Measures
General Information Refer to section 7, Handling, for additional precautionary measures.
Release Ensure adequate ventilation.
Clean-up Keep unnecessary people away; isolate hazard area and deny entry. Stay
upwind, out of low areas, and ventilate closed spaces before entering. Shut off
ignition sources; keep flares, smoking or flames out of hazard area. Absorb spill
with inert material (e.g., dry sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder,
sawdust), then shovel into a suitable container for disposal. Do not use sparking
Page 3 of 7
