Section 4. First -Aid Measures <br />General <br />Poison information centres in each State capital city can provide additional <br />assistance for scheduled poisons (13 1126). <br />Ingestion <br />If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an <br />unconscious person. Aspiration hazard if swallowed - can enter lungs and cause <br />damage. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, bet, or waistband. Get <br />medical attention. <br />Skin <br />Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops or <br />persists. <br />Inhalation <br />Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is <br />difficult, give oxygen. Get immediate medical attention. <br />Eye <br />Flush eye with plenty of water for 15 minutes while holding eyelids open. Remove <br />contact lenses. Continue flushing for 15 minutes or until eyes return to normal. <br />Get medical attention if irritation develops or persists. <br />Acute/Delayed Symptoms <br />Irritating to eyes and skin. Central nervous system effects. May cause headache. <br />Drowsiness. Narcosis. Inhalation of vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. <br />Aspiration hazard if swallowed - can enter the lungs and cause damage. May <br />cause nausea and vomiting. May cause diarrhea. <br />Notes to physician <br />Treat symptomatically. <br />Protection for first-aiders <br />First -Aid Providers: Avoid exposure to blood or body fluids. Wear gloves and <br />other necessary protective clothing. Dispose of contaminated clothing and <br />equipment as bio-hazardous waste <br />Section 5. Fire Fighting Measures <br />Suitable Extinguishing Water fog or fine spray. Dry chemical fire extinguishers. Carbon dioxide fire <br />Media <br />extinguishers. Foam. Alcohol resistant foams (ATC type) are preferred. <br />Unsuitable Extinguishing <br />Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire. If water must <br />Media <br />be used, use as a spray only to protect fire fighters or cool containers. Use fog <br />nozzles if water is used. <br />Risk <br />Highly flammable. Container explosion may occur under fire conditions or when <br />heated. May be ignited by heat, sparks or flames. <br />Flammable Properties <br />Combustion products may include and are not limited to: Carbon monoxide. <br />Carbon dioxide. Vapors may form explosive mixture with air. <br />Fire fighting instructions <br />Move container from fire area if it can be done without risk. Vapors may be <br />heavier than air. They can spead along the ground and collect in low of confined <br />areas. Ignition or flashback may occur. <br />Risk <br />Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. <br />Advice for Fire Fighters <br />Self-contained respiratory protection should be provided for fire fighters fighting <br />fires in buildings or confined area. Storage containers exposed to fire should be <br />kept cool with water spray to prevent pressure build-up. Stay away from heads of <br />containers that have been exposed to intense heat or flame. <br />Section 6. Accidental Release Measures <br />General Information Refer to section 7, Handling, for additional precautionary measures. <br />Release Ensure adequate ventilation. <br />Clean-up Keep unnecessary people away; isolate hazard area and deny entry. Stay <br />upwind, out of low areas, and ventilate closed spaces before entering. Shut off <br />ignition sources; keep flares, smoking or flames out of hazard area. Absorb spill <br />with inert material (e.g., dry sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, <br />sawdust), then shovel into a suitable container for disposal.
