Drew Martin
From: markn@engineersnw.com
Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2023 10:30 AM
To: Drew Martin
Cc: Harold Christensen
Subject: [EXTERNAL] Formost Fuji - brace connection
Attachments: FormostFujiBraceConnCalc.pdf
CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you
recognize the sender and know the content is safe.
Drew: I checked vertical and horizontal welds of the brace knife plate to beam flange and column knife plate, assuming
9" and 10" eccentricity respectively, and assuming the actual geometry called out in 5/S3.1 and using the coefficients
Tables 8-4 and 8-10 of the AISC Manual (see attached). Is this okay? Should I check anything else? The connection
appears to be conservative overall, with quite a bit of extra capacity. For the vertical weld, I checked only the portion
below the beam flange, which is conservative; in reality, probably a significant portion of the vertical force component
will transfer thru the double fillet weld on the beam bottom flange to the upper portion of the column knife plate.
Let me know if this is acceptable.
