Before system start up, the operator should visually inspect the pumps for leaks, signs
of vandalism and fluid levels.
3.4.4 Water Quality Monitoring Box
Both automated and hand testing equipment should be calibrated before every shift and
documented. Chitosan lines should be checked for leaks and secondary containment
checked for any spills. If any of the safety equipment was used during a shift, notify the
NSC field manager so replacements can be ordered.
3.4.5 Sand Media Filter Unit
Sediment build up on the sand filter media is back washed with clean treatment system
filtrate and routed back to the pre-treatment tanks. Over a period of time, sand can be
washed out with the back flush to the point additional bags need to be added. This
material is readily available at a number of supply stores.
3.4.6 Connection Lines and Hoses
A visual walk of the system and piping should be done during every day of operation.
Extra pipe and fittings will be kept onsite to make any repairs.
3.4.7 Personal Protective Equipment
System operators should have typical site safety equipment; hard hat, safety glasses,
hearing protection available, gloves, high visibility clothing and steel toe boots. An eye
wash is mounted in the WQMB near the chemical storage area.
3.4.8 Filtration System Safety
Only Northwest Soil Cement LLC personnel or others, that are on the Washington State
Department of Ecology Approved Operator list shall operate and maintain the filtration
system as well as handling of the treatment chemicals.
Temporary over land piping is being used to convey water throughout the filtration
system.
The filtration system is designed to be operated in multiple shifts over a 24-hour period.
At times this will require operation during periods of darkness. The Water Quality
Control Box is internally lit for night time operation. Light plants will be positioned to
properly light all of the designated pedestrian corridors if this becomes necessary.
3.4.9 Treatment Chemical Handling and Storage
City of Everett
EVERETT Reviewed for Permit 10/20/2021
WASHINGTON
14
