Section II — Proposal Narrative
Applicants must retain all text provided in this section to outline their narrative.Applicants must address each item
provided, in order, as outlined. This section must not exceed four(4)pages in length including all provided text.
1. This inventory will include:f public trees + planting sites ✓J public trees only.
2. Clearly define the purpose, objective and need for the inventory.
Everett Parks Urban forestry Department is responsible for managing park landscape
trees, public owned forest tracts, and Public Right of way trees along medians and in the
Central business district.
Historically park arborists maintained landscape trees on a 3-5 year systematic visitation
cycle. The scheduled work did not correlate to individual tree needs for maintenance.
These maintenance schedules relied on institutional memory from in people who are in
most cases no longer accessible to the program.
With the opportunity for new growth and development we would like to develop park
maintenance plans and a forestry maintenance schedule based on individual landscape
tree needs. We would like to do so in a way that will outlast the individual employees in the
program. To do this we need a completed, accessible tree inventory.
In 2015 we began an aerial photo tree count project that revealed we have over 2300 park
3. Describe how data from the inventory will be used to manage the community tree
resource.
The data collected both by in house parks employees and through state assistance will be
combined to create the first complete inventory of park landscape trees.
These data will be imperative in developing and implementing a systematic tree health
care program. The inventory will be used to assess future replacement tree planting
needs, and park maintenance plans; it will help set informed park management goals and
will be useful for communicating program opportunities and limitations. The inventory will
also set a baseline to reference future successes and needs for programmatic changes
and improvements.
The graphical data and analysis of species and size distribution will be used to
communicate regional needs. It will help determine new planting opportunities and will
help with 5 year goals, policy development and project focus areas
f
1
{{1
Revised 2015 Community Forestry Tree Inventory Grant 2015
Page 4 of 7
