All related design and <br />permit costs are estimated at $250,000. <br />The Parks & Facilities Department has been awarded a Local Community Project Grant from the <br />state in the amount of $345,000 to help fund the project. The department also plans to apply for <br />a Youth Athletic Facilities Grant to also help fund the project. <br />Project summary statement: <br />The City of Everett and the Mukilteo Everett Pickleball Club are partnering in the planning, design <br />and construction of Everett’s first multiple court outdoor recreation facility dedicated solely to <br />pickleball the nation’s fastest growing sport for people of all ages and abilities. <br />The project includes the replacement of approximately thirty underutilized and dilapidated <br />covered horseshoe pits and related structures and storage outbuildings. The two existing multi- <br />use sport courts will be renovated to complement the new pickleball facility and expand <br />opportunities for basketball and hockey. The proposed new facility will add, eight paved <br />dedicated pickleball courts, four of which will be designed for regulation play. Additional <br />enhancements include related sport fencing, energy-efficient site lighting, drinking fountain, <br />benches, new horseshoe pits, added cornhole, landscape and stormwater treatment. <br />Staff will return to Council for approval to amend the funding Ordinance once an Engineer’s <br />estimate for construction costs is prepared. <br />Recommendation (exact action requested of Council): <br />Adopt an Ordinance creating a Special Improvement Project entitled “Forest Park Pickleball Court <br />Installation”, Fund 354, Program 093, to accumulate all design and permitting costs for the <br />project in the amount of $250,000.
