Fire Hydrants locations in areas where due to topographical, nonnegotiable <br />grades, and or other similar conditions that may hinder fire department <br />operations. <br /> <br />507.5.2 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire hydrant systems shall be subject to periodic <br />tests as required by the fire code official. Fire hydrant systems shall be maintained in an <br />operative condition at all times and shall be repaired where defective. Additions, repairs, <br />alterations and servicing shall comply with approved standards. Records of testing and required <br />maintenance shall be maintained. <br /> <br />507.5.3 Private fire service mains and water tanks. Private fire service mains and water tanks <br />shall be periodically inspected, tested and maintained in accordance with NFPA 25 at the <br />following intervals: <br />1. Private fire hydrants of all types: Inspections annually and after each operation; <br />flow test and maintenance annually. <br />2. Fire service main piping: Inspection of exposed, annually; flow test every 5 <br />years. <br />3. Fire service main piping strainers: Inspection and maintenance after each use. <br />Records of inspection, testing and maintenance shall be maintained. <br /> <br />507.5.4 Obstruction. Unobstructed access to fire hydrants shall be maintained at all times. The <br />fire department shall not be deterred or hindered from gaining immediate access to fire <br />protection equipment or fire hydrant. Posts, fences, vehicles, growth, trash, storage and other <br />materials or objects shall not be placed or kept near fire hydrants, fire department inlet <br />connections or fire protection system control valves in a manner that would prevent such <br />equipment or fire hydrant form being immediately discernible. <br /> <br />507.5.5 Clear space around hydrants. A 3-foot clear space shall be maintained around the <br />circumference of fire hydrants, except as otherwise required or approved. <br /> <br />507.5.6 Physical protection. Where fire hydrants are subject to impact by a motor vehicle, guard <br />posts or other approved means shall comply with Section 312. <br /> <br />507.5.7 Existing non-conforming hydrants. At such time as an existing private hydrant, which <br />does not conform to the requirements and standards of this section, is replaced, it shall be <br />replaced with a hydrant that conforms to the standards and requirements of this section. <br /> <br />507.5.8 Identification. Fire hydrants shall be painted in the following colors. Public fire hydrants <br />shall be painted with two coats of high gloss caterpillar yellow, Luxlite #6100-516 or “Rust- <br />Oleum” #7448 or approved equal and the port caps will be painted black. Private fire hydrants <br />shall be painted with two coats of high gloss “SAFETY RED” and the port caps will be painted <br />black. <br /> <br />507.5.9 Adaptors. All hydrants shall have a 5-inch Storz metal face adaptor x female hydrant <br />thread with cap. The adapter shall be aluminum alloy (6061-T6 minimum) forged or extruded <br />and shall be specified to meet a 500 psi test and permanently attached in accordance with the
