CITY OF EVERETT AQUASOX PAGE 1
ECONOMIC IMPACT UPDATE SCOPE OF WORK MARCH 12, 2024
Everett AquaSox
Economic Impacts Analysis Update
March 12, 2024
B ACKGROUND AND P URPOSE
Everett, Washington, has long been the home of the Everett AquaSox, now
considered a High-A Club, the third-highest level of play in Minor League
Baseball. In recent years, sweeping changes were implemented to Minor
League Baseball (MiLB), nationwide. New team divisions and multiple
ownership consolidations come with new expectations of team operations and
playing venues.
Funko Field has been a mainstay in Everett since 1947, and home to the
AquaSox and its predecessor club since 1984. The stadium underwent
extensive renovations in 1998, including many on-site improvements and
expansion to 3,700 seat capacity. Funko Field is part of the larger Everett
Memorial Stadium sports complex, owned by the Everett School District.
Major League Baseball (MLB), now overseeing MiLB, requires new standards
for minor league venues that affect Funko Field as the home of the AquaSox.
As a result, the City of Everett seeks to understand the economic benefits of
the AquaSox at Funko Field and at a potential alternative site. The City of
Everett contracted with Community Attributes to conduct a study assessing
the economic impacts of the AquaSox at Funko Field, in addition to the
potential impacts that may be generated at two downtown alternative sites
with varying degrees of non-baseball events was conducted in 2022.
The City of Everett has requested an update to the economic impacts of two
sites, the AquaSox at Funko Field in 2023 and the estimated potential
impacts of a downtown alternative site at Broadway and Hewitt Ave. The
following Work Plan presents our approach to this work for the City of
Everett. We will welcome additional discussion to refine the plan, as needed.
W ORK P LAN
Task 1. Data Gathering and Direct Impacts
The project will begin with a kick-off meeting to align expectations on
deliverables and timeline. Additionally, this kick-off meeting will be
leveraged to discuss data collected by the City of Everett, the Everett School
District, Funko Field and the AquaSox. Specific data required for the
updated analysis includes, but is not limited to:
EXHIBIT A: SCOPE OF WORK
