2024 Pavement Maintenance Overlay SPECIAL PROVISIONS PW# 3823 74 1 8-20.3.GR8 2 Construction Requirements 3 4 8-20.3(14).GR8 5 Signal Systems 6 7 8-20.3(14).INST1.GR8 8 Section 8-20.3(14) is supplemented with the following: 9 10 CNH 8-20.3(14)C INDUCTION LOOPS.DOCX 11 8-20.3(14)C Induction Loop Vehicle Detectors 12 13 Section 8-20.3(14)C is supplemented with the following: 14 15 (******) 16 Induction loops shall be constructed as detailed in City of Everett Drawing Nos. 17 804, 805, 809, 810, and Section 8-20.3(14)C of the Standard Specifications with 18 the following modifications: 19 20 1. The loop locations shall be marked on the pavement by the contractor 21 and approved by the engineer prior to sawcutting. At no point shall any 22 of the sawcuts pass closer than 2' to any utility cover. 23 2. Loop detector sealant shall be as shown in City of Everett Standard 24 Drawing 809, or as approved by the Engineer. 25 3. Rope is not required. 26 4. Loops shall not be installed in rainy weather or at temperatures below 27 40o. 28 5. Loops shall be placed in the sawcut in a clockwise direction. 29 6. The loop sealant shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer's 30 recommendations. 31 7. Detector loop wire shall use 14 AWG stranded copper conductors, and 32 shall conform to IMSA Specification 51-7, with cross-linked polyethylene 33 (XLPE) insulation encased in a polyethylene outer jacket (PE tube). 34 8. The area around the conduit stub-out shall be patched with hot mix 35 asphalt concrete if it is greater than 2" in width. 36 9. The sawcuts shall be of uniform depth and any sharp edges, abrasions 37 or ridges shall be removed prior to placing the wire. 38 10. The sawcut depth shall be a minimum of 3½" and shall provide a 39 minimum of 2" cover above the loop wires. 40 11. The sawcut width shall be a minimum of 1/4" for the loop and 3/8" for the 41 home run. 42 12. The sawcut shall be cleaned out with a high pressure water stream and 43 then dried with compressed air prior to placing the wire. 44 13. All splices between the loop wire and the loop lead-in cable shall be 45 soldered and utilize a splice kit in conformance with Standard Drawing 46 809. 47 14. When the roadway is to be overlaid as a part of the project, the loops 48 shall be installed prior to the final overlay. 49 15. Circular loops are standard installations. Where shown in the Plans, the 50 contractor shall install quadrupole loops at stop lines due to stub-out 51
