Edgewater Creek Bridge Replacement November 2023 135 Dry-Through Time ASTM D 16402 24 hr. maximum 1Spot Test using Paint Thinner and Gasoline. 1 23-mil wet film tested at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. 2 3 2. Type III – Permanent, Water Cleanable. Type III coatings allow for the removal 4 of the graffiti with a high-pressure cold water wash. Coatings must be self-5 recoatable for the life of the coating. 6 7 The color must be clear, unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. 8 9 Provide material complying with the requirements listed in TABLE 2. 10 11 TABLE 2: REQUIREMENTS FOR TYPE III COATINGS Property Test Method Requirement Graffiti Resistance ASTM D 6578 Cleanability Level 1 Recleanability ASTM D 6578 Min. 10 cycles Set-to-Touch Time ASTM D 16401 4 hr. maximum Dry-Through Time ASTM D 16401 24 hr. maximum 13-mil wet film tested at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. 12 13 Test Methods 14 Test in accordance with the requirements stated in the Requirements subsection. 15 16 Prequalifications 17 a. Each anti-graffiti coating intended for use under this specification must be 18 prequalified before use. Submit a written request for prequalification to the Bureau 19 Chief of Construction and Materials. Provide the following documentation: 20 21 1. Name, address, and telephone number of the manufacturer. Include the name 22 and e-mail address of the preferred contact person 23 24 2. Brand name of the anti-graffiti coating. 25 26 3. A complete description, literature, and set of instructions for removal of graffiti. 27 28 4. Material Safety Data Sheets. 29 30 5. A copy of test results performed as outlined in subsection b. of 9-08.9(2) from 31 a recognized laboratory. Include evidence that the laboratory is regularly 32 inspected. A recognized laboratory is one operated by any State 33 Transportation Agency, the Federal Highway Administration, or any cement 34 and concrete laboratory regularly inspected by the Cement & Concrete 35 Reference Laboratory (CCRL) or the National Institute of Standards and 36 Technology. Test results are to be no more than 24 months out of date. 37 38 6. An infrared spectrum of the anti-graffiti coating which was used in the 39 laboratory tests. 40 b. Submit a one gallon sample from production to the Engineer of Tests. All coatings 41 will be fingerprinted using infrared spectroscopy for use in screening future 42
