Edgewater Creek Bridge Replacement November 2023 134 6-02.2(9-08).OPT1.DOCX 1 (******) 2 Anti-Graffiti Coating 3 Description 4 This specification covers anti-graffiti coatings, which are coatings applied to substrates to 5 facilitate the removal of graffiti. 6 7 Requirements 8 a. General 9 10 1. Anti-graffiti coatings must not react deleteriously with above grade concrete, 11 concrete block, exposed aggregate concrete, brick, stonework, painted steel, 12 or aluminum substrates. 13 14 2. The applied coating must produce a firm, continuous, uniform film that is free 15 of pinholes, cracks, or other film defects and exhibit satisfactory adhesion. The 16 consistency must be such that the coating can be satisfactorily applied by 17 spray, roller, or brush at atmospheric and material temperatures above 50°F 18 without thinning. When applied properly to vertical surfaces, the coating must 19 remain uniform during the required curing period and must not sag, 20 disintegrate, check, peel, or crack. 21 22 3. The VOC content of the coating must comply with the current national rule for 23 industrial maintenance coatings. 24 25 4. When the Contract Documents specify the coating as clear or translucent, the 26 coating must cure clear or translucent, as appropriate. 27 28 b. Specific 29 30 In addition to the general requirements of subsection a., the coating must meet the 31 requirements of Type II or Type III. 32 33 1. Type II - Permanent. Type II coatings are chemically resistant coatings that 34 allow removal of the graffiti with solvent or chemical graffiti removers.
