Edgewater Creek Bridge Replacement November 2023 156 Pipe laying shall be in accordance with Section 7-08.3(2) of the Standard Specifications. 1 48” diameter detention pipe shall be installed as detailed in the Plans. 2 3 Backfilling 4 Placement of pipe zone backfill shall be performed in accordance with these 5 requirements. Excavations shall be backfilled as soon after the pipe laying as possible. 6 7 Pipe zone backfill shall be placed in loose layers and compacted to ninety percent (90%) 8 maximum density. Backfill shall be brought up simultaneously on each side of the pipe to 9 the top of the pipe zone. The pipe shall then be covered to the top of the pipe zone and 10 the materials compacted in a manner to avoid damaging or disturbing the completed pipe. 11 12 Backfill above the pipe zone shall be accomplished in such a manner that the pipe will 13 not be shifted out of position nor damaged by impact or overloading. If pipe is being placed 14 under existing paved areas, or Roadways, backfill above the pipe zone shall be placed in 15 horizontal layers no more than 8 inches thick and compacted to ninety percent (90%) 16 maximum density. All compaction shall be in accordance with the Compaction Control 17 Test of Section 2-03.3(14)D. 18 19 Excavated native material shall be used for backfill in the zone above the construction 20 geotextile if it meets the requirements of Section 9-03.14(3), Common Borrow. Materials 21 determined by the Engineer to be unsuitable for backfill at the time of excavation or that 22 do not meet the requirements for Common Borrow shall be removed and replaced with 23 imported backfill material. 24 25 Backfilling of trenches in the vicinity of catch basins, manholes, or other appurtenances 26 will not be permitted until the cement in the masonry has become thoroughly hardened. 27 28 The Contractor shall not operate tractors or other heavy equipment over the top of the 29 pipe until the backfill has reached a height of two (2) feet above the top of the pipe. 30 31 Measurement 32 No specific unit of measurement will apply to the lump sum item “48 In. Detention Pipe”. The 33 limits of measurement for “48 In. Detention Pipe” are as follows: 34 35 Horizontal Limits: The outside edge of the 48 In. Detention Pipe trench as dimensioned 36 in the Plans and corresponding with the horizontal limits of construction geotextile. 37 38 Lower Limit: The bottom of the gravel bedding, as shown in the Plans. 39 40 Upper Limit: The construction geotextile above the 48 In. diameter detention pipe and 41 backfill materials shall be considered the top of the 48 In. Detention Pipe. 42 43 Payment 44 Payment will be made for the following bid item when included in the proposal: 45 46 "48 In. Detention Pipe", lump sum. 47 48 The lump sum Contract payment for “48 In. Detention Pipe” shall be full compensation for all 49 costs incurred for constructing a complete detention facility, including Structure excavation 50 including haul, furnishing, installing and compacting crushed surfacing base course; furnishing 51 and installing detention pipe, including sections of the detention pipe for connection to catch 52
