Edgewater Creek Bridge Replacement November 2023 155 Description 1 This Work consists of constructing a detention pipe in accordance with the Plans, these 2 Specifications, and as staked. 3 4 Materials 5 Materials shall meet the requirements of the following Sections: 6 7 Crushed Surfacing Base Course 9-03.9(3) 8 Corrugated Aluminum Pipe 12 Gage minimum 9-05.5 9 High Density Polyethylene Pipe 9-05.23 10 Corrugated Polyethylene Storm Sewer Pipe 9-05.20 11 Steel Rib Reinforced Polyethylene Pipe 9-05.22 12 13 Construction Requirements 14 The intent of the detention pipe is to store stormwater runoff and release it slowly over time. 15 The Contractor shall include proposed methods to prevent silt laden construction runoff in the 16 Temporary Erosion and Sedimentation Control (TESC) Plan. 17 18 Excavation 19 Excavations shall either be closed up at the end of the day or protected per Section 1-20 07.23(1). 21 22 The width and depth of the excavation for the detention pipe shall be as shown in the 23 Plans. Placement of bedding material shall precede the installation of all pipe. This shall 24 include necessary leveling of the native bottom of the excavation or the top of the 25 foundation material as well as placement and compaction of required bedding material to 26 a uniform grade so that the entire length of pipe will be supported on a uniformly dense 27 unyielding foundation. 28 29 The Contractor shall furnish, install, and operate all necessary equipment to keep 30 excavations above the foundation level free from water during construction, and shall 31 dewater and dispose of the water so as not to cause injury to public or private property or 32 nuisance to the public. Sufficient pumping equipment in good working condition shall be 33 available at all times for all emergencies, including power outage, and shall have available 34 at all times competent workers for the operation of the pumping equipment. 35 36 Bedding the Pipe 37 Pipe zone bedding material shall provide uniform support along the entire pipe barrel, 38 without load concentration at joint collars or bells. All adjustment to line and grade shall 39 be made by scraping away or filling in with bedding material under the body of the pipe 40 and not by blocking or wedging. Bedding disturbed by pipe movement, or by removal of 41 shoring movement of a trench shield or box, shall be reconsolidated prior to backfill. 42 43 Pipe zone bedding shall be as specified in City of Everett Standard Drawing No. 418 and 44 shall be placed in loose layers and compacted to ninety percent (90%) maximum density. 45 Bedding shall be placed, spread, and compacted before the pipe is installed so that the 46 pipe is uniformly supported along the barrel. Lifts of not more than eight (8) inches in 47 thickness shall be placed and compacted along the sides of the pipe to the height shown 48 in the Plans. Material shall be worked carefully under the pipe haunches and then 49 compacted. 50 51 Pipe Laying 52
