The contractor planned to begin drilling for installation of
the vertical elements of the planned soldier pile wall. 1-beams to be installed in the drilled holes were stockpiled along the
southeastern portion of the site and were measured to verify dimensions conform with the approved plans. The contractor
was utilizing an excavator mounted drill mast to advance 24-inch auger to the specified depths. Immediately above the
surveyed drill locations, a vertical cut on the order of 2- to 4-feet in height was previously made at roughly the location of the
upper landslide scarp. We did not observe shaft caving issues during the drilling activities and only encountered very minor
groundwater seepage approximately 4-feet below the ground surface at pile 2 location. After completion of the 7 piles
installed today, each shaft was filled with Portland cement mixture to top of hole (bottom of excavation). A summary of the
drilled shafts completed today is shown in Table 1 below.
Table 1
Pile Number
Approx. Gravel surfacing was imported to the site to form an equipment access ramp and drill pad extending
from the southeast corner of the house and down below the pile alignment. Steel plates were also placed on the concrete
driveway and on the grass eastern side yard to allow for equipment access into the southern backyard work area and an
Attachment: Site Plan Signed:
Distribution:
