The modifications include: • Sign height-from 20 feet to 22' 7" • Sign area -from 40 square feet to 70 square feet • Landscaping around base—landscape native shrubs behind sign, invasive species removal • Protection around base—applicant states street curb provides protection • Locating sign in the city right of way-Currently prohibited AUTHORITY, PROCESS, AND CRITERIA EMC 19.36.020.D grants authority to the planning director to modify sign code requirements using Review Process I—Planning Director Review (see EMC 15.02.060) in the following instance: The intent of the modification process is to provide design flexibility options that may not be possible through strict application of the sign standards. This process may not be used to allow a sign that is otherwise prohibited by this chapter. ANALYSIS OF THE SIGN MODIFICATION REQUEST The sign modification criteria is established in 19.36.020: a. The modification(s)request is due to unusual conditions related to sign visibility needs for a specific building or lot. Unusual conditions may include building size, sign location and distance from the street, The larger and taller sign is necessary to provide adequate directional wayfinding signage to the Port of Everett's terminals.Trucks entering the Port of Everett need to be able to respond in time and make safe directional changes.
