Footings
• Rebar requirements for footings: minimum four vertical #4 bars and hoop bars of
#3 or #4 rebar horizontally at 9" spacing, footings (2) # 4 bars each way.
• 6x6 posts attached to footings using steel anchors and brackets such as a
Simponson P1366, or C1366, or CBSQ66-SDS2, or similar.
2. Beams:
• 6x10 beams pressure treated HF#1 support beam are used (instead of 4x12 in the
original drawing).
3. Bracing: Steel L-brackets between the posts and beam will provide the lateral bracing of
the deck to form a rigid braced frame along the axis of the length of the deck. The steel L or
T brackets are made of/4" mild steel plate (typical A35 steel) with the following
dimensions:
• 16" legs x 5" wide.
• Four rows of two 1/2" lag bolts on each leg at 3.5" spacing (total of 8 bolts per leg,
or 16 bolts per bracket)
Analysis of these alternative designs has been accomplished and all of these changes are
more than strong enough to meet requirements.
