Park District Planned Development Overlay | Exhibit A.2 – Park District Design Standards Page 29 <br />Exhibit A.2_Park District PDO_Design Standards_24-0703 <br />5.4 – Exterior Building Materials <br />Purpose <br />• To encourage the use of durable, high quality building materials that minimize <br />maintenance cost and provide visual interest from all observable vantage points. <br />• To promote the use of a distinctive mix of materials that helps to articulate façades and <br />lends a sense of depth and richness to the buildings. <br />• To place the highest priority on the first floor in the quality and detailing of materials at <br />the pedestrian scale. <br />Relationship to Other Standards <br />These standards are unique to the Park District. <br />Standards <br />A. Quality building materials. <br />1. Building must use high-quality durable materials. This is most important for the base of <br />buildings, particularly for commercial and mixed use buildings where the façade is sited <br />close to sidewalks. <br />2. Prohibited exterior building materials: <br />a. Fiberglass. <br />b. Vinyl and plastic siding. <br />c. Plywood. <br />d. T-111 siding. <br />e. Mirrored glass and other highly reflective materials. <br />f. Exterior insultation and finish system (EIFS). <br />3. The use of sustainably harvested, salvaged, recycled, or reused products is encouraged <br />wherever possible. <br />
