Park District Planned Development Overlay | Exhibit A.2 – Park District Design Standards Page 31 <br />Exhibit A.2_Park District PDO_Design Standards_24-0703 <br />6.0 – Signs <br />Purpose <br />• To enhance the visual character and identity of the Park District and reduce clutter and <br />visual distraction. <br />• To promote economic development in the Park District <br />• To enhance and protect property values and the quality of life by preserving and <br />enhancing the appearance of the streetscape. <br />• To promote the community’s appearance by regulating the design, character, quality of <br />materials, and of signs to maximize their positive visual impact. <br />Relationship to Other Standards <br />Under Exhibit A.1, the Park District PDO is subject to Sign Category B sign standards. This <br />section supplements the Sign Category B standards of Chapter 19.36 EMC. <br />Standards <br />A. Freestanding signs. In addition to the requirements of EMC 19.36.050(A), pole signs are <br />prohibited. <br />B. Wall signs. In addition to the requirements of EMC 19.36.050(B), the following standards <br />apply: <br />1. Wall signs must be proportional to the façade. They must be no wider than two-thirds <br />the width of the individual façade. This standard also applies to upper-level businesses. <br />2. Wall signs that advertise the name of the building and are not associated with the name <br />of any individual tenant are exempt from the maximum sign area, provided such signs <br />are no larger than 25 square feet each and limited to three per building. <br />C. Canopy and awning signs. In addition to the requirements of EMC 19.36.050(G), the <br />following standard applies: Signs must be no wider than two-thirds the width of the <br />individual awning or no more than 20 feet, whichever is less. <br />D. Sign illumination types prohibited. In addition to the requirements of EMC 19.36.050(I), the <br />following standard applies: Backlit cabinet signs are prohibited (where the sign face is <br />illuminated through a translucent casing). <br />E. Electronic changing message signs are prohibited except when designed and placed as a <br />window sign. Such signs must comply with the standards of EMC 19.36.050(C). <br />
