CITY OF EVERETT WEST MARINE VIEW DRIVE/ALVERSON AND 41 ST ST/GRAND AVE <br />PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS <br />STATE FUND# HLP-PB15(032) <br />WO #3630 July 25, 2024 <br />88 <br />1 7-12.3 Construction Requirements <br />2 <br />3 Section 7-12.3 is supplemented by the following: <br />4 <br />5 Valve and Valve Box Installation: <br />6 The valve and valve box shall be set plumb with the valve box centered on the <br />7 operator nut. Valve boxes shall be set flush in pavement and gravel roads. Asphalt <br />8 concrete is required in gravel roads 2’ around the valve box. When the top of the <br />9 valve operating nut is more than 3’ below finished grade, a valve operating extension <br />10 shall be installed per Standard Plan No. 505. The minimum extension length shall be <br />11 12". <br />12 <br />13 The Contractor shall remove existing valve boxes on water mains to be abandoned. <br />14 Backfill for the void shall be excess material from trench excavation or "Gravel <br />15 Borrow" as directed by the Engineer. If valve is in the street, an asphalt patch shall <br />16 be constructed in accordance with City of Everett Standards. <br />17 <br />18 Tapping Sleeve and Valve: <br />19 All wet taps to existing water mains shall be done by City Utility Department personnel. <br />20 Contractor shall provide all materials and parts to perform all pavement sawing, <br />21 pavement removal, excavations, shoring, and traffic control and other work required <br />22 to install the tapping sleeve and valve assembly. City personnel will perform the tap <br />23 of the existing main after the Contractor has the site ready, the parts on hand, and is <br />24 ready for the tapping operation. City personnel shall not enter any excavation not <br />25 shored in conformance with the requirements of WISHA, RCW 49.17 including WAC <br />26 296-155. City personnel shall be given at least 5 business days minimum notice for <br />27 each tap. The City of Everett shall thereafter determine the date and time that each <br />28 tap shall be made. Contractor shall be responsible for backfill, compaction, and <br />29 restoration of the pavement once the tapping sleeve and valve assembly has been <br />30 installed by the City and tested. <br />31 <br />32 Adjusting Valve Boxes to Grade: <br />33 Where shown in the plans, existing valve boxes and covers shall be adjusted to the <br />34 grade as staked or otherwise designated by the Engineer. The adjustment of the <br />35 valve box to grade by the use of riser rings is not allowed. <br />36 <br />37 Removal operations shall be conducted to prevent damage to the valve boxes. Any <br />38 parts or materials damaged due to the Contractor’s operations shall be replaced at <br />39 his expense. <br />40 <br />41 The Contractor shall conduct his valve box adjustments so that the fully-adjusted box <br />42 allows the respective valve to be fully operational. The Contractor shall remove all <br />43 debris from the adjusted valve boxes to ensure such operational condition. <br />44 <br />45 7-12.4 Measurement <br />46 <br />47 Adjust Valve Box to Grade, shall be measured per Each. <br />48 <br />49 <br />50 7-12.5 Payment <br />51
