Clean and seal the existing joint between concrete panels in accordance with <br />2 Section 5-01.3(8) and the details shown in the Standard Plans. <br />3 <br />4 5-04.3(13) Surface Smoothness <br />5 The completed surface of all courses shall be of uniform texture, smooth, uniform as to <br />6 crown and grade, and free from defects of all kinds. The completed surface of the wearing <br />7 course shall not vary more than b inch from the lower edge of a 10-foot straightedge <br />8 placed on the surface parallel to the centerline. The transverse slope of the completed <br />9 surface of the wearing course shall vary not more than … inch in 10 feet from the rate of <br />10 transverse slope shown in the Plans. <br />11 <br />12 When deviations in excess of the above tolerances are found that result from 9X.4>. place <br />13 in the HMA, the pavement surface shall be corrected by one of the ,1&&1043>X;/+.1<5E <br />14 <br />15 1. Removal of material from high places by grinding with an approved grinding <br />16 machine, or <br />17 2. Removal and replacement of the wearing course of HMA, or <br />18 3. By other method approved by the Engineer. <br />19 <br />20 Correction of defects shall be carried out until there are no deviations anywhere greater <br />21 than the allowable tolerances. <br />22 <br />23 Deviations in excess of the above tolerances that result from a low place in the HMA and <br />24 deviations resulting from a high place where corrective action, in the opinion of the <br />25 Engineer, will not produce satisfactory results will be accepted with a price adjustment. <br />26 The Engineer shall deduct from monies due or that may become <%/X+1 the Contractor the <br />27 sum of $500.00 for each and every section of single traffic &93/X feet in length in which <br />28 any excessive deviations described above are found. <br />29 <br />30 When utility appurtenances such as manhole covers and valve boxes are located in the <br />31 traveled way, the utility appurtenances shall be adjusted to the finished grade prior to <br />32 paving. This requirement may be waived when requested by the Contractor, at the <br />33 discretion of the Engineer or when the adjustment details provided in the project plan or <br />34 specifications call for utility appurtenance adjustments after the completion of paving. <br />35 <br />36 Utility appurtenance adjustment discussions will be included in the Pre-Paving planning <br />37 (5-04.3(14)B3). Submit a written request to waive this requirement to the Engineer prior to <br />38 the start of paving. <br />39 <br />40 5-04.3(14) Planing (Milling) Bituminous Pavement <br />41 The Contractor shall call for locates before planing any HMA pavement. Any induction <br />42 loop vehicle detectors which are within the planing area shall be discussed with the <br />43 inspector prior to planing to see if the planing limits can be modified to save the loops. <br />44 Any loops which are damaged in the planing process shall be replaced prior to the final <br />45 overlay. The electrical subcontractor shall be on-call and the loops shall be replaced <br />46 within 5 working days of the planing operation and paved within 3 working days of the
