18TH STREET PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS 3741 RMT July 03, 2024 39 The Contractor may use up to 20 percent RAP by total weight of HMA with no additional 1 sampling or testing of the RAP. The RAP shall be sampled and tested at a frequency of 2 one sample for every 1,000 tons produced and not less than ten samples per project. 3 The asphalt content and gradation test data shall be reported to the Contracting Agency 4 when submitting the mix design for approval on the QPL. The Contractor shall include 5 the RAP as part of the mix design as defined in these Specifications. 6 7 The grade of asphalt binder shall be as required by the Contract. Blending of asphalt 8 binder from different sources is not permitted. 9 10 The Contractor may only use warm mix asphalt (WMA) processes in the production of 11 HMA with 20 percent or less RAP by total weight of HMA. The Contractor shall submit to 12 the Engineer for approval the process that is proposed and how it will be used in the 13 manufacture of HMA. 14 15 Production of aggregates shall comply with the requirements of Section 3-01. 16 Preparation of stockpile site, the stockpiling of aggregates, and the removal of 17 aggregates from stockpiles shall comply with the requirements of Section 3-02. 18 19 5-04.2(1) How to Get an HMA Mix Design on the QPL 20 If the contractor wishes to submit a mix design for inclusion in the Qualified Products List 21 (QPL), please follow the WSDOT process outlined in Standard Specification 5-04.2(1). 22 23 5-04.2(2) Mix Design – Obtaining Project Approval 24 No paving shall begin prior to the approval of the mix design by the Engineer. 25 26 Nonstatistical evaluation will be used for all HMA not designated as Commercial HMA 27 in the contract documents. 28 29 Commercial evaluation will be used for Commercial HMA and for other classes of HMA 30 in the following applications: sidewalks, road approaches, ditches, slopes, paths, trails, 31 gores, prelevel, and pavement repair. Other nonstructural applications of HMA accepted 32 by commercial evaluation shall be as approved by the Project Engineer. Sampling and 33 testing of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation will be at the option of the Project 34 Engineer. The Proposal quantity of HMA that is accepted by commercial evaluation will 35 be excluded from the quantities used in the determination of nonstatistical evaluation. 36 37 Nonstatistical Mix Design. Fifteen days prior to the first day of paving the contractor 38 shall provide one of the following mix design verification certifications for Contracting 39 Agency review; 40 41 • The WSDOT Mix Design Evaluation Report from the current WSDOT QPL, or 42 one of the mix design verification certifications listed below. 43 • The proposed HMA mix design on WSDOT Form 350-042 with the seal and 44 certification (stamp & signature) of a valid licensed Washington State 45 Professional Engineer. 46 • The Mix Design Report for the proposed HMA mix design developed by a 47 qualified City or County laboratory that is within one year of the approval date.** 48
