18TH STREET PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS 3741 RMT July 03, 2024 76 Secure bond breaker geotextile to the base with pins or nails punched through 1 galvanized discs 2- to 2.75-inches in diameter. Maximum spacing must be less than 2 6 feet except along edges spacing must be less than 3 feet. The nail or pin and disk 3 must not protrude above the surface of the bond breaker geotextile. Do not operate/ 4 drive equipment on the bond breaker geotextile. 5 6 Dampen the bond breaker geotextile with water before covering it with pavement. 7 8 Protect the bond breaker geotextile from damage by any cause. Repair damaged 9 bond breaker geotextile. 10 11 8-26.3(8) As-built Construction Tolerances 12 Vertical wall alignment: ± 1.5 inches over any 10 feet distance. 13 14 Wall Batter: within 2 degrees of design batter. 15 16 Horizontal alignment: ± 1.5 inches (40 mm) over any 10 feet distance. Corners, bends 17 & curves: ± 1 foot to theoretical location. 18 19 Maximum horizontal gap between erected units shall be ≤ ½ inch. 20 21 8-26.3(9) Field Quality Control 22 Wall construction shall be monitored by a qualified Engineer to verify field conditions. 23 If this work is not performed by the site geotechnical engineer, a geotechnical 24 engineer shall be consulted in those matters pertaining to soil conditions and wall 25 performance. 26 27 The foundation soils at each wall location shall be inspected by the Engineer and any 28 unsuitable soils or improperly compacted material shall be removed and replaced as 29 directed by the Engineer prior to wall construction to provide adequate bearing 30 capacity and minimize settlement. 31 32 All wall excavation and retained soils shall be inspected for groundwater conditions 33 and any additional drainage provisions required in the field shall be incorporated into 34 the wall construction as directed by the Engineer. 35 36 Reinforced backfill material shall be tested and approved by the Engineer for use in 37 the reinforced soil zone meeting the minimum requirements of the approved design 38 plans. 39 40 All soil backfill shall be tested by the Contractor for moisture, density, and compaction 41 periodically (every 2' vertically, 100'-200' c/c) meeting the minimum requirements of 42 the approved design plans or project specifications. 43 44 Wall construction shall be periodically inspected by the Engineer to ensure the geogrid 45 reinforcement elevations and lengths are installed in accordance with the approved 46 design plans. 47 48 All wall elevations, grades, and backslope conditions shall be verified by the Engineer 49 in the field for conformance with the approved design plans. Any revisions to the 50 structure geometry or design criteria shall require design modification prior to 51 proceeding with construction. 52
