L1 During Construction (Emergency Access) <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> All required Fire Department Access Roads shall be installed to an extent that will <br /> provide all-weather paved access for emergency vehicles prior to combustibles being <br /> brought to the site or combustible construction taking place.The Fire Code Official shall <br /> determine the adequacy of the access roads during construction. Prior to final approval <br /> for any development project, fire department access roads shall be completed with all <br /> markings, signage and striping. <br /> ❑X Electronically Operated Gates <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> Override Key-Gates electronic controlled shall have an approved fire department <br /> override key switch (Knox).Activation of an approved key switch for an electronically <br /> controlled gate shall open the gate/gates to the fully open position within 10 seconds <br /> and remain in the open position until reset by EFD personnel. <br /> Strobe Light Sensors- In addition to the Key Switch (Knox), gates accessing more than <br /> three residences or residential lots, or gates accessing hazardous, institutional, <br /> educational, multi-family or assembly occupancy group structures, shall be equipped <br /> with an approved automatic traffic control-activating strobe light sensor capable of <br /> detecting emergency vehicle pulsing strobe lights (Tomar)from any direction of vehicle <br /> approach (interior and exterior), overriding all commands and opening the gate(s). <br /> Fail Safe Operations- In the event of a power failure, including battery back-up,the <br /> gate(s)shall automatically open, by spring tension or other non-electrical method, or <br /> the gate must be capable of being pushed open without additional steps having to be <br /> performed. <br /> Gate Setbacks (Stacking Lane) - Entry gates shall be set back from the nearest curb line <br /> of any public or private street to provide a minimum 30 feet from face of curb or from <br /> back of sidewalk when there is a sidewalk, as to not obstruct vehicular or pedestrian <br /> traffic. In cases where the gate swings in the direction of the staged fire apparatus the <br /> additional distance shall be accounted for and the setback increased. <br /> 0 Manually(Non-Automatic)Operated Gates <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> All manually operated gates shall comply with the following: <br /> • Gate width shall be a minimum of 20 feet unobstructed. When open, <br /> gates shall not obstruct any portion of the required width of the <br /> driveway or access road. <br /> • Entry gates shall be set back from the nearest curb line of any public or <br /> private street to provide a minimum 30 feet from face of curb or from <br /> back of sidewalk when there is a sidewalk, as to not obstruct vehicular <br /> or pedestrian traffic.
