• Existing Structures-When an FDC is added to an existing structure that is being <br /> retrofitted with fire sprinklers or a standpipe system, the FDC shall be located <br /> within 100 feet of a fire hydrant. <br /> Note: Location and positioning of the FDC will be determined by the fire code official. <br /> • Locations& Placement of Fire Hydrants <br /> Comment: —COMMENT-- <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> The Fire Code Official shall determine the locations of fire hydrants based upon <br /> determination of utility,topography, and building location. <br /> ❑X Distance from Buildings(Fire Hydrants) <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> No fire hydrant shall be placed closer than 50 feet from the face of overhang of any <br /> building to be protected; minor deviations may be granted with the approval of the Fire <br /> Code Official. <br /> Exception: Detached Single-Family Dwellings and Mobile Homes. <br /> • Streets/Roadways(Fire Hydrants) <br /> Comment: ---COMMENT--- <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> Where feasible, fire hydrants shall be located on the building side of roadways, streets, <br /> fire access roads or fire lanes. Fire Hydrants that are located on the opposite side of a <br /> street of the proposed protected building shall not be counted towards the required <br /> number of hydrants or spacing when one of the following apply; <br /> • The street is provided with median dividers that cannot be crossed by fire <br /> fighters pulling hose lines <br /> • Where arterial streets are provided with four or more traffic lanes <br /> • Parking Areas(Fire Hydrants) <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> Fire hydrants located in parking areas shall be installed in an island to ensure quick and <br /> easy access for fire apparatus attempting to utilize the hydrant. <br /> • Identification (Fire Hydrants) <br /> Code Requirement: <br /> Fire hydrants shall be painted in the following colors. <br /> • Public hydrants shall be painted with two coats of high gloss caterpillar yellow, <br /> Luxlite#6100-516 or"Rust-Oleum"#7448 or approved equal.The port caps will <br /> be painted black. <br /> • Private hydrants shall be painted with two coats of high gloss "SAFETY RED".
