Below are our <br /> responses to the structural comments. All changes to the drawings due to a plan check comment have <br /> been clouded on the drawings. <br /> STRUCTURAL <br /> Lateral System: <br /> 1. It appears that the lateral load path at the new mezzanine framing may be the two columns that <br /> the framing attaches to and not the relatively flexible new shear walls. Please verify that the <br /> existing columns have the ability to carry lateral loading from the mezzanine. IBC 1604.4. <br /> See the attached supplemental calculations. Based on the deflection derived from the story shear <br /> applied to two column and also the two shear walls, the shear walls are slightly stiffer than the <br /> columns(they deflect slightly less).Additionally, although the shear walls are stiffer, the existing <br /> columns have the structural capacity to resist the entire mezzanine seismic load if the shear walls are <br /> more flexible than calculated. <br /> Miscellaneous: <br /> 2. It appears that a note is missing on detail 12 sheet S3.1 that is similar or the same as note 2 on <br /> detail 10 sheet 53.1,or the note provided on detail 12 refers to the wrong detail. <br /> See the revision to detail 12/S3.1.
