The area surrounding the existing on-site development is routinely maintained. Lawn grasses and
emergent species are located on the north and west sides of the pool, parking lot, walkways, and
clubhouse. South of the clubhouse there is a forested canopy dominated by western red cedar
(Thuja plicata), Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesiz), and shore pine (Pinus contorta). The understory in
this area includes maintained rhododendron, salal (Gaultheria shallon), English ivy (Hedera helix), and
other ornamental shrubs. Lawn areas provide little to no habitat to wildlife that use the site. The
area south of the clubhouse provides some opportunity for shading, foraging, and nesting;however,
opportunities are limited due to routine maintenance, unnatural ornamental landscaping, and
proximity to the clubhouse and 12151 Street SE.
5.1.2 Stream and Vegetated Corridor
} :-
_ •R''*'. ."may 'y3- '-.1,ti.-•-v'' \ - "5., ....;#'•
r
ar
r
Figure 3—Unmaintained vegetaion along Silver Lake Creek riparian corridor.
Silver Lake Creek drains Silver Lake from north to south through the area immediately east of the
clubhouse. A narrow corridor of forested vegetation surrounded by a split rail fence borders the
stream to the east and west. The stream runs beneath 121 s, Street SE and discharges to a broader
habitat corridor. Vegetation within the on-site portion of the stream corridor is forested with a
canopy that includes red alder (Alnus rubra) and western red cedar (Populus balsamifera). The
understory is relatively sparse and features a mixture of native and invasive species including
Himalayan blackberry (Rubus armeniacus), young mountain ash (Sorbus sitchensis), English ivy,
Salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis), osoberry (Oemleria cerasiformis), ladyfern (Athyrium fzlix femina), and
Charter Club Apartments 11 RW#23061
Critical Area Report&Mitigation Plan November 6, 2023
