<br />Fulton Street Pedestrian Bicycle Corridor PAGE 75 OF 114 CONTRACT <br />FEDERAL AID # TAP-0420(026) <br />WO #3785 September 6, 2024 <br /> <br />The Contractor may choose to utilize recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) in the production 1 <br />of HMA. The RAP may be from pavements removed under the Contract, if any, or 2 <br />pavement material from an existing stockpile. 3 <br /> 4 <br />The Contractor may use up to 20 percent RAP by total weight of HMA with no additional 5 <br />sampling or testing of the RAP. The RAP shall be sampled and tested at a frequency of 6 <br />one sample for every 1,000 tons produced and not less than ten samples per project. 7 <br />The asphalt content and gradation test data shall be reported to the Contracting Agency 8 <br />when submitting the mix design for approval on the QPL. The Contractor shall include 9 <br />the RAP as part of the mix design as defined in these Specifications. 10 <br /> 11 <br />The grade of asphalt binder shall be as required by the Contract. Blending of asphalt 12 <br />binder from different sources is not permitted. 13 <br /> 14 <br />The Contractor may only use warm mix asphalt (WMA) processes in the production of 15 <br />HMA with 20 percent or less RAP by total weight of HMA. The Contractor shall submit to 16 <br />the Engineer for approval the process that is proposed and how it will be used in the 17 <br />manufacture of HMA. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Production of aggregates shall comply with the requirements of Section 3 -01. 20 <br />Preparation of stockpile site, the stockpiling of aggregates, and the removal of 21 <br />aggregates from stockpiles shall comply with the requirements of Section 3 -02. 22 <br /> 23 <br />5-04.2(1) How to Get an HMA Mix Design on the QPL 24 <br />If the contractor wishes to submit a mix design for inclusion in the Qualified Products List 25 <br />(QPL), please follow the WSDOT process outlined in Standard Specification 5 -04.2(1). 26 <br /> 27 <br />5-04.2(2) Mix Design – Obtaining Project Approval 28 <br />No paving shall begin prior to the approval of the mix design by the Engineer. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Nonstatistical evaluation will be used for all HMA not designated as Commercial HMA 31 <br />in the contract documents. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Commercial evaluation will be used for Commercial HMA and for other classes of HMA 34 <br />in the following applications: sidewalks, road approaches, ditches, slopes, paths, trails, 35 <br />gores, prelevel, and pavement repair. Other nonstructural applications of HMA accepted 36 <br />by commercial evaluation shall be as approved by the Project Engineer. Sampling and 37 <br />testing of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation will be at the option of the Project 38 <br />Engineer. The Proposal quantity of HMA that is accepted by commercial evaluation will 39 <br />be excluded from the quantities used in the determination of nonstatistical evaluation. 40 <br /> 41 <br />Nonstatistical Mix Design. Fifteen days prior to the first day of paving the contractor 42 <br />shall provide one of the following mix design verification certifications for Contracting 43 <br />Agency review; 44 <br /> 45 <br />• The WSDOT Mix Design Evaluation Report from the current WSDOT QPL, or 46 <br />one of the mix design verification certifications listed below. 47
