Cracks ¼ inch to 1 inch in width - fill with hot poured sealant. 5 <br />B. Cracks greater than 1 inch in width – fill with sand slurry. 6 <br /> 7 <br />5-04.3(4)B Vacant 8 <br /> 9 <br />5-04.3(4)C Pavement Repair 10 <br />The Contractor shall excavate pavement repair areas and shall backfill these with HMA 11 <br />in accordance with the details shown in the Plans and as marked in the field. The 12 <br />Contractor shall conduct the excavation operations in a manner that will protect the 13 <br />pavement that is to remain. Pavement not designated to be removed that is damaged as 14 <br />a result of the Contractor’s operations shall be repaired by the Contractor to the 15 <br />satisfaction of the Engineer at no cost to the Contracting Agency. The Contractor shall 16 <br />excavate only within one lane at a time unless approved otherwise by the Engineer. The 17 <br />Contractor shall not excavate more area than can be completely finished during the 18 <br />same shift, unless approved by the Engineer. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Unless otherwise shown in the Plans or determined by the Engineer, excavate to a depth 21 <br />of 1.0 feet. The Engineer will make the final determination of the excavation depth 22 <br />required. The minimum width of any pavement repair area shall be 40 inches unless 23 <br />shown otherwise in the Plans. Before any excavation, the existing pavement shall be 24 <br />sawcut or shall be removed by a pavement grinder. Excavated materials will become the 25 <br />property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of in a Contractor provided site off the 26 <br />Right of Way or used in accordance with Sections 2 -02.3(3) or 9-03.21. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Asphalt for tack coat shall be required as specified in Section 5 -04.3(4). A heavy 29 <br />application of tack coat shall be applied to all surfaces of existing pavement in the 30 <br />pavement repair area. 31 <br /> 32 <br />Placement of the HMA backfill shall be accomplished in lifts not to exceed 0.35 -foot 33 <br />compacted depth. Lifts that exceed 0.35 -foot of compacted depth may be accomplished 34 <br />with the approval of the Engineer. Each lift shall be thoroughly compacted by a 35 <br />mechanical tamper or a roller. 36 <br /> 37 <br />5-04.3(5) Producing/Stockpiling Aggregates and RAP 38 <br />Aggregates and RAP shall be stockpiled according to the requirements of Section 3 -02. 39 <br />Sufficient storage space shall be provided for each size of aggregate and RAP. Materials 40 <br />shall be removed from stockpile(s) in a manner to ensure minimal segregation when 41 <br />being moved to the HMA plant for processing into the final mixture. Different aggregate 42 <br />sizes shall be kept separated until they have been delivered to the HMA plant. 43 <br /> 44 <br />5-04.3(6) Mixing 45 <br />After the required amount of mineral materials, asphalt binder, recycling agent and anti -46 <br />stripping additives have been introduced into the mixer the HMA shall be mixed until 47
