The HMA in the 2 <br />temporary wedge shall be separated from the permanent HMA by strips of heavy 3 <br />wrapping paper or other methods approved by the Engineer. The wrapping paper shall 4 <br />be removed and the joint trimmed to a slightly beveled edge for the full thickness of the 5 <br />course prior to resumption of paving. 6 <br /> 7 <br />The material that is cut away shall be wasted and new mix shall be laid against the cut. 8 <br />Rollers or tamping irons shall be used to seal the joint. 9 <br /> 10 <br />5-04.3(12)A2 Longitudinal Joints 11 <br />The longitudinal joint in any one course shall be offset from the course immediately 12 <br />below by not more than 6 inches nor less than 2 inches. All longitudinal joints 13 <br />constructed in the wearing course shall be located at a lane line or an edge line of the 14 <br />Traveled Way. A notched wedge joint shall be constructed along all longitudinal joints in 15 <br />the wearing surface of new HMA unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. The 16 <br />notched wedge joint shall have a vertical edge of not less than the maximum aggregate 17 <br />size or more than ½ of the compacted lift thickness and then taper down on a slope not 18 <br />steeper than 4H:1V. The sloped portion of the HMA notched wedge joint shall be 19 <br />uniformly compacted. 20 <br /> 21 <br />5-04.3(12)B Bridge Paving Joint Seals 22 <br /> 23 <br />5-04.3(12)B1 HMA Sawcut and Seal 24 <br />Prior to placing HMA on the bridge deck, establish sawcut alignment points at both ends 25 <br />of the bridge paving joint seals to be placed at the bridge ends, and at interior joints 26 <br />within the bridge deck when and where shown in the Plans. Establish the sawcut 27 <br />alignment points in a manner that they remain functional for use in aligning the sawcut 28 <br />after placing the overlay. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Submit a Type 1 Working Drawing consisting of the sealant manufacturer’s application 31 <br />procedure. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Construct the bridge paving joint seal as specified ion the Plans and in accordance with 34 <br />the detail shown in the Standard Plans. Construct the sawcut in accordance with the 35 <br />detail shown in the Standard Plan. Construct the sawcut in accordance with Section 5 -36 <br />05.3(8)B and the manufacturer’s application procedure. 37 <br /> 38 <br />5-04.3(12)B2 Paved Panel Joint Seal 39 <br />Construct the paved panel joint seal in accordance with the requirements specified in 40 <br />section 5-04.3(12)B1 and the following requirement: 41 <br /> 42 <br />1.
