<br />Fulton Street Pedestrian Bicycle Corridor PAGE 96 OF 114 CONTRACT <br />FEDERAL AID # TAP-0420(026) <br />WO #3785 September 6, 2024 <br /> <br />pavement shall be slightly grooved or roughened sufficiently to ensure a bond when 1 <br />overlaid. All areas to be ground shall be completed with a grinder. The use of other 2 <br />methods must be approved by the Engineer. 3 <br /> 4 <br />If, after planing a thin veneer layer remains, the contractor shall replane the roadway as 5 <br />directed by the Engineer, paid under “Additional Planing Bituminous Pavement”. The 6 <br />Contractor shall adjust their schedule at no additional cost to the owner. 7 <br /> 8 <br />The planings shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be removed from the 9 <br />right-of-way. The planings may be utilized as RAP, within the requirements of Section 5 -10 <br />04.2 or 9-03.21. The Contractor shall immediately dispose of all other debris resulting 11 <br />from the planing operation in a Contractor-provided site off the right-of-way. 12 <br /> 13 <br />Immediately after grinding, the Contractor shall construct an asphalt transition 14 <br />(temporary paper joints or ramps), on all traveled ways, wheel chair ramps, and exposed 15 <br />manholes, inlets, catch basins, monuments, valve boxes, and other structures on the 16 <br />street, regardless of depth in grinding. Asphalt transition must be removed prior to 17 <br />overlay. Cast iron structures left higher than 2” must be removed and steel plates 18 <br />installed to protect the opening and provide a suitable driving surface. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Sweeping of roadway surface shall immediately follow all grinding. Sweeping of roadway 21 <br />surface is required prior to tack placement and paving. 22 <br /> 23 <br />The road shall be overlayed within 3 working days after planing operation for streets 24 <br />without loops. On streets where loops will be replaced, the overlay shall be completed 25 <br />within 8 working days after planing operation. 26 <br /> 27 <br />Sweepers following the grinding work will not be paid separately, and is included in the 28 <br />bid item “Planing Bituminous Pavement (2” Deep)”, per square yard. 29 <br /> 30 <br />For mainline planing operations, the equipment shall have automatic controls, with 31 <br />sensors for either or both sides of the equipment. The controls shall be capable of 32 <br />sensing the proper grade from an outside reference line, or a mat -referencing device. 33 <br />The automatic controls shall also be capable of maintaining the desired transverse slope. 34 <br />The transverse slope controller shall be capable of maintaining the mandrel at the 35 <br />desired slope (expressed as a percentage) within plus or minus 0.1 percent. 36 <br /> 37 <br />Pre-level course is not anticipated on any of the selected streets. If, however, after 38 <br />plaining operations, drivability issues cannot be resolved with 2” overlay, pre -level will be 39 <br />required as directed and paid for by “HMA Class 1/2” PG 64 -22”, per ton.
