2. The accessibility complian*ere is a bit nuanced. The door that is intacted is part of the existing .
construction that leads to a jury deliberation suite for the adjacent existing courtroom. The existing jury
box, deliberation.suite and jury toilet rooms are not accessible. So, while we would agree that the toe of
the new ramp, might infringe on the required door clearance — it's technically not an accessible route
because nothing else is accessible. Our new courtroom would provide a compliant courtroom with
accessible components for jurists that will allow the Countyto schedule proceedings to provide an
accessible experience for the public participating in court trials.
Section 305.6 of the IEBC addresses Alterations and includes language that gives some latitude [ "...to the
maximum extent technically feasible"]. We would offer that the overall impact of the proposed renovation
improves accessibility and the technically feasible solution only impacts the existing structure in away that
doesn't really make those existing conditions any less accessible. That's a lot of wordsmithing — but
basically our argument is we're not really making existing accessability worse.
3. I believe that we can comply with your request regarding item 3 by confirming the width of that vestibule.
Happy to jump on a call if it would be easier to resolve over the phone.
Doug
Douglas Kleppin AIA
Principal • Architect
The S/L/A/M Collaborative
o. 407.992.6368
m. 407.234.5249
e.
