1
2
3.
You are correct in our statement about accessible route. Only one accessible route is required. From our
Y Y q Y..
diagram ,in the letter, it appears that door #3526 complies with the maneuvering clearance for a latch approach
on the push side. When you submit the permit revision referenced in the letter, we will re -review., FYI,
regarding accessible routes, section 1104.5.states that the accessible route shall coincide with general
circulation.
Regarding accessibility of existing buildings, an alteration shall not reduce accessibility in existing facilities per
IEBC 305.3. To this point, the west end of the ramp renders the existing maneuvering clearance for the door to
the north (not labelled) inaccessible as required by a hinge approach on the push side per [CC A117.1-2009
figure 404.2.3.2 (e). It is reasonable to anticipate that a person with a disability may continue west along this
route up and down the ramp, as opposed to requiring them to walk around to the south and approach from the
west, which is not the general circulation route. Regardless of whether the accessible route coincides with the
general circulation path, a new ramp cannot intrude on the maneuvering clearance of an existing door.
Lastly, please note that the vestibule room 3511 does not comply with the accessible maneuvering clearance
required by ICC A117.1-2009 404.2.5 regarding doors in a series. Please also reference figure 404.2.5 (c).
Items 2 and 3 above should be corrected. Please let me know if we can assist further.
Regards,
_ Scott Schreffler, RA
Senior Architect I Permit Services
425.257.8810 13200 Cedar Street, 2"d Floor, Everett, WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M-F: 8:30 a.m. —12 p.m & 1 p.m. — 3 p.m.
everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
Note: Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
Category 2: For official use only / disclosure permissible by law.
From: Tony Lee <TLee@everettwa.gov>
Sent: Friday, March 8, 2024 7:28 AM
To: Douglas Kleppin <DKleppin@slamcoll.com>; Scott Schreffler <SSchreffler@eve rettwa.gov>
Cc: Dajuane Thomas <DThomas@slamcoll.com>; Lance Meinhold <Lance.Meinhold@co.snohomish.wa.us>; Drew Martin
<dma rtin @everettwa.gov>
Subject: RE: [EXTERNAL] Snohomish County Courtroom Renovation
