•
r,
Mr. Dennis Stickles
Northwest Handling Systems
Plan Check Number: B2212-049, First Building Review
February 15, 2023
4. Continuing with the previous comment, the new platform is proposed to be connected to and
utilize an existing platform for the lateral resistance of the new platform. This is not allowed if
the existing platform similarly does not comply with ASCE 7-16 Section 12.2.5.6 as discussed
above. Discrete structures with structural separation are required per Section 12.12.3. See IBC
Section 1613.1.
5. The structure appears intended to provide moment connections between the beams and
column per Detail A/S0.1. However, this detail appears to show thru-bolts in both directions
that conflict.
6. Detail K/SO.1 shows a knee brace that appears intended as part of the lateral moment frame
system. The following comments should be addressed:
a. The use of this detail should be clearly shown in the framing plan. See IBC Section 1603.1.
b. Presuming the brace is intended as part of the lateral system, the calculations should be
revised to include the element. It is not currently included; only fixed beam-column joints
have been analyzed. Braced joints should be modeled in all locations where they occur.
See IBC Sections 1604.4 and 1613.1, and ASCE 7-16 12.7.3.
7. The columns appear to be part of lateral frames in both directions. The columns are required
to consider multidirectional loading per ASCE 7-16 Section 12.5.4. Load combinations
substantiating the required loading should be submitted for review. See IBC Sections 1604.4
and 1613.1.
8. The columns should be designed including overstrength per AISC 341-16 Section D1.4a(b).
Load combinations substantiating the required loading should be submitted for review. See IBC
Section 2205.2.1.2.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
. during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers-of-record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer/ Commercial Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
dmartin@everettwa.gov
S:\BMa rti n\2022\B2212-049_R1.docx
0 3200 Cedar Street 0 425.257.8810 r, everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax / everettwa.gov/permits
Page 3of3)
