a. The diaphragm assembly design requirements are also dependent upon the aspect ratio.
In the calculations you show your ratio to be less than 4:1.According to Table 4.2.4 of
the NDS SDPWS,the appropriate diaphragm sheathing type options for a diaphragm of
this aspect ratio include: 1. Wood structural panel, blocked, or 2. Double-layer diagonal
lumber sheathing.
SDA: Revised drawings and calculations to be issued to provide a diagonal bracing system for
transferring lateral loads into house structure.
2. On the second-floor plan on sheet SC5 I am unable to determine how the new and existing
decks converge. Please clarify how the decks are to interface at their shared sides.
SDA: Seismic gap to be specified on the revised S-Sheets.
3. The reports acknowledged that the decks were constructed in a controlled space with no
exposure to wet conditions. In what manner does the design consider the effect of weather
conditions on this deck?
SDA: Revised S-sheets will use an alterative method for transferring lateral loads. Alternative
method considers wet service use (MC>19%)for member and connection designs.
Thank you again for the information. Please feel free to reply to this email as your response to my
questions and by resubmitting drawings as needed.
Regards,
— Ben Monk, P.E.
Building Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8810 1 3200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett, WA 98201
EVERETT Phone Hours: M/W/Th: 8:30 a.m.—12 p.m & 1 p.m.—3 p.m.
everettwa.gov/permits I onlinepermits.everettwa.gov I Facebook Twitter
Category 2: For official use only/disclosure permissible by law.
From:Jasper JB. The findings in this report are used to justify the deck
diaphragm for this project.
