The hidden fasteners will not be
sufficient in transferring the lateral load. The studies previously referenced are no longer relevant. SDA
is pivoting to using diagonal bracing to transfer the lateral load. Revised S-Sheets and a revised
Calculation package will be issued.
Regards,
Jasper Baarbe
Structural Design Associates, Inc.
O:425-339-0293
E: iasper@sdaeverett.com
Category 2: For official use only/disclosure permissible by law.
From: Ben Monk<BMonk@everettwa.gov>
Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2024 9:02 AM
To:Jasper JB. Additionally, if the approximate loading you show in your calculations were to be
plotted on the load displacement curves developed in testing of the controlled structure, minimal
deflections should occur. However, given the new information and basis for the deck design, I still have
comments regarding the design documents and calculations:
1. The Deck/Diaphragm Construction assembly tested in the second study used a specific wood-
plastic composite decking and the simulated house diaphragm utilized adhesives, OSB plywood,
and nails to achieve rigidity. On the drawings I am not seeing a specified decking assembly.
Please provide the assembly appropriate to replicate the behavior the deck is supposed to
achieve. The diaphragm design should be designed according to the provisions of the NDS
SDPWS Sections 4.2.1, 4.2.2 and 4.2.7.
