I
CHAPTER 6. SPECIES INFORMATION
IWDFW's Priority Habitat and Species (PHS) maps show no protected habitats and species on the
subject property. Federally-listed species potentially found within the vicinity of the proposed project
I include steelhead trout, Puget Sound DPS (Oncorhynchus mykiss); Chinook salmon, Puget Sound ESU
(Oncorhynchus tshawytscha); and bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus), Puget Sound ESU; and Churn
(Oncorhynchus keta), Puget Sound ESU, Orca Southern Resident DPS (Orcinus orca), and Sockeye
I (Oncorhynchus nerka). In addition, the Snohomish River contains ESA-listed critical habitat for Chinook
salmon, steelhead, and bull trout (NOAA Fisheries,2016) (US Fish and Wildlife Service,2016). Coho
(Oncorhynchus kistuch)are also found in the vicinity of the project area, but they are only Federally-listed
I in the Oregon and California area, however, they are a Species of Concern in Washington, but are not
required to be addressed in this assessment and the proposed project would likely have No Effect on
this species (NOAA Fisheries, 2016).
1 In consideration of the Washington State and ESA-listed species with possible presence in
Snohomish County, there does exist a Peregrine Falcon and Bald Eagle breeding area and Osprey
and Purple Martin occurrence within the vicinity of the project site. The breeding area of the
IPeregrine Falcon is approximately 1,500 feet from the project area. The Bald Eagle breeding area is
approximately 4,000 feet from the project area. The Osprey is located approximately 5,500 feet from
I the project area and the Martin is approximately 3,025 feet from the project area. The terrestrial
action area of the project is as defined by WSDOT has been determined to be a diameter of 81
linear feet and the aquatic action area has been determined to be 200 linear feet downstream
I
(WSDOT, 2015). Refer to Chapter 2. Therefore, these species are outside the action area of the
project and the project is determined to have No Effect on these species.
Based on data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine
I
Fisheries Service (NMFS), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and WDFW's PHS and
SalmonScape data, a number of species listed under the ESA that may be found in the Snohomish
River and/or Possession Sound and were considered when investigating listed species presence for
I
the proposed project. A list of these species is found in Table 4. Potential for impacts due to the
proposed project and potential species presence in the project vicinity are discussed in Chapter 7.
IThe following species may be located in the vicinity of the project and may have the potential for
project impacts. Species for which there may be possible impacts are covered in Chapter 7.
ITable 4:ESA Listed Species Potentially Found in the Vicinity of the Action
Common Name Scientific Name Federal Listing Impact
Status Determinations
I Dolly Varden/Bull Trout Salvelinus malnia Threatened No Effect
Steelhead Oncorhynrhur mykirs Threatened No Effect
Chinook Oncorhynchus tshanytshca Threatened No Effect
ISockeye Oncorhynchus nerka Threatened No Effect
Chum Oncorhynchus keta Threatened No Effect
Orca Orcinus orca Endangered No Effect
1
Soundview Consultants LLC December 8,2016
I
1413.0003 Riverside Business Park—FEMA ESA Habitat Assessment Report Page 16
